Yin & Yang Home

An existing detached house from the 1930s is being renovated and an extension added. The design of the old house with its pitched roof and mullioned windows is to be carefully preserved, while the new building with its half-timbered roof and clinker brick façade stands out clearly and recognisably. While the old building is small in its spatial structure, the new building is planned to be spacious with large openings to the garden. Both buildings represent polar opposites and yet related principles of architectural theory, which nevertheless complement each other here to form a unity.
